nogreatillusion:

Sometimes I know how it feels to be Britney Spears.

It happens like this.

I am suddenly and completely overwhelmed with unhappiness, but not smart enough to articulate what is wrong. I am cognizant of all the things I have not done and do not understand, but I’m too exhausted to seek them out and force-feed myself an education in adulthood. Instead, I let other people do things for me, let them coddle me into a passive stupor. But through this daze, I remain painfully aware of the books going unread in my bookshelves, and the bridges I have not burned, but allowed to collapse with neglect. And I am desperate for attention, obsessed with my appearance, tearing out my hair and taking off my clothes.  I am consumed with self-promotion for an anonymous audience - future employers, future lovers, future people on the sidewalks of streets. They are people who do not exist, will never exist because I will never live in the present. I will never say “Here I am. I am enough.” No, I will bottle my discouragements one by one and and make the same mistakes I have made before. I will sell myself to myself like a piece of propaganda and you will believe it, and I will almost believe it.

Some interesting combinations that I am looking to incorporate into my wardrobe.  Here’s some tips (nicked from The Budget Fashionista’s website) on how to incorporate these colors into your existing wardrobe.
 - Start small- like a orange beret, a bright pair of pattern tights (Wal-Mart has a FABULOUS selection of tights), etc. Resist the urge to dress head to toe in Fuchsia. - If you’re new to the color game, make sure the color piece is simple and structured- like a sheath dress, cropped blazer, etc.  Leave the over sized tops, leggings to those with a bit more color experience. - If you normally don’t wear bright colors, head to stores like Wet Seal, Forever21, Payhalf and other cheap , mall based stores to to find colorful items to add to your wardrobe.  Also thrift stores and consignment shops are great places to find these items, without breaking the bank. Once you get used to the color, then you can spend more. - Remember where you put the color is where people are going to look. If you got a ghetto booty, you might want to walk away from bright yellow pants. If you have a uniboob- you might want to skip the fuchsia halter top.

PS: Haven’t been keeping up here because I got a little side tracked :(

Simplicity Quote

In character, in manners, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity.” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I believe this quote sums up the foundation of everything I do, in Fashion and otherwise.

Thrifting

Oh my God! Where have I been?  Just got home from my first NY thrifting experience and I scored an ESCADA jacket!

SHOCKER! From now on, no more high end stores for me EXCEPT for extremely special occasions.

I also bougth this really beautiful party dress that needs just a slight bit of alteration to make it perfect.  It fits very well right now but I want to turn it into a sleeveless version of its sleeved self.

3rd and final item was a perfect fit vintage Tee.  Hehehe … I can’t help it. I am a sucker for comfort.

*Remeber, the aim here is very Tom-boy sexy with a classic twist. I think*

I don’t have a camera or I would post pictures up.  Not to worry though, I am working on getting a camera soon.

I am deliriously seriously HAPPY:)

I really like everything about this look except height of the heels.  While the nude color of the shoes add a surprising element to an outfit that would otherwise be boring, I won’t be going for heels that high in the day time or anytime at all; well, except if I am going straight from my house into a car that will drop me right at the door steps of my destination.
For one, I want my feet to remain sexy when I get to 80 (God-willing). And two, I am a more sassy, confident, and sexy woman when I wear sensible heels.

Plus, I think heels that high should be wiped out only in the bedroom:)

Hair Consultations

These are the names of the places I am considering getting my hair done at.

1. Muoy: heard that she is great for weaves but have no clue how she is with relaxers
2. Sanctuary Salon Brooklyn
3. Rosalinda’s

Results of consultations:
1. Muoy: Initially referral was just for weaves.  After visiting and talking to her, I decided to be a bit more patient, take my time and really research to find the best options for my hair.
2. Sanctuary Salon Brooklyn: When I first started researching adding a chemical to my hair, this salon was my first choice.  Along the line, I decided against them, after calling and booking a consultation with the head stylist, because I didn’t trust that they would be able to handle what I wanted to do with my hair (i.e. a very very mild texturizer as opposed to a relaxer). Plus, since I also have to stick to a very strict regimen for my hair (i.e. salon visits, treatments, color, and the works), the salon prices are not pocket-friendly for someone on an entry-level salary.
3. Rosalinda’s:  I am in love! Seriously, I had a great experience at the salon.  I need to develop a whole post dedicated to my experience here.  I pray I find time.

Lessons Learnt:

  • I did not know much about my hair (without chemicals). I relaxed my hair, not knowing the effects of chemicals on my type of hair, because it was what everyone around me did.
  • In the past, I believed that any one who was called a professional haircare stylist knew what they were doing.  Therefore, I would trust people with my hair without really taking the time to talk and ask questions.

Now I know more about myself, and have taken the time to learn how best to work with my type of hair, I am better armed to navigate the maze of all things hair while incorporating it into my own personal style philosophy.

What is that philosophy? Still working it out but it HAS to be based on simplicity and furgality.

Hair Question

Right now, my hair is natural (no-relaxer) and has been this way for the past 7 years.

As part of my journey to develop a personal style, I have been thinking about moving from the natural world to the relaxed world.Problem with that is that my hair is very fine and thin. So relaxers (in the past) have pretty much left my hair very limp. Any fashionable person knows that hair is a great part of your look.  And dead looking hair is not a good look. Did I also mention that natural hair just does not fit into my career trajectory right now?  To move up the professonal ladder I have to look a certain part, and currently that certain part doesn’t really mesh well with the big vibrant and color afros I would like to rock.

The dilemma.

**How can I maintain a relax my hair for the next 10-15 years without ending up with limp, lifeless hair?**

I like this dress.  I like the idea of me wearing this dress even better.
What you can’t see is the design details on the back of dress (I wish i knew how to play around with tumblr to get it to load 2 pictures side by side; if you do know how to do this with any FREE application please let me know ) which is just delightful.
But @ $138 I find myself hestiant to click the proceed to check out botton. I am trying to stay on a budget while building my own personal style.  What kind of questions sould I ask myself before each purchase?
